Brain Breaks and Moving to Learn

In E6 we do lots of brain gym activities.  We love to take breaks from sitting still on the mat and we love to move around in fun challenging ways.

Here we are in this movie walking along a ribbon that we stretch out on the mat.  We do this to 'warm up' our brain and get ready for writing.  (Our brain isn't really having a break at all!).  We have to concentrate and cross our bodies over the line, keep our balance and think about the letters we have to say out loud.  We use both sides of our brain and have lots to remember when we are reading and writing as well!

Our brain is working hard to:
  • Co-ordinate our movements and our thinking.
  • Think about 2 tasks at the same time (Mrs Graham gives us 3 letters or words to remember while we walk!)
  • Connect our brain, eyes and feet.
  • Keep balanced.
  • Use both our left brain and our right brain together!
Check back soon to see us doing more brain gym activities!
