Rainbows

Over the last few days we have been seeing lots of rainbows in the sky.  It has been raining a lot in Lower Hutt, but when it isn't raining the sun has been peeking through the clouds.

We have been learning about rainbows.  We learned two very important things.

We know that you need sun and rain to see a rainbow in the sky.  You have to have the rain in front of you, and the sun behind you.

We also learned that the colours in the rainbow are always the same, and always in the same order!

Sometimes when we draw rainbows we like to choose colours that we love the most.  But when you look up in the sky at a rainbow the colours are always in the same order.  Sometimes rainbows are really bright in the sky and sometimes you have to look really hard to see them.

We read a big book together by our favourite author, Joy Cowley.  The book was called Roy G Biv.  Roy G Biv is a rainbow clown and he lives in Rainbow Town.  He wears colourful rainbow clothes.  Roy G Biv helped us to learn the names of the colours that are in a rainbow.

Every letter in Roy G Biv's name stands for a colour in the rainbow.  The letters in his name are also the order that the colours of the rainbow are in!
We painted beautiful rainbows and we used Roy G Biv to help us remember what colour to paint next.  We are so proud of our beautiful rainbows.

We are going to ask Mr Mike to come to our classroom with the ladder so we can hang them up high.  We think they will make us smile while we are learning.  We hope they make you smile too!

  1. I love your work E6 - your rainbows are just lovely. Have you heard the ROYGBIV song? Check it out on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf33ueRXMzQ.
I wonder if B6 might be interested in rainbows also? We've been enjoying seeing them through the window too.
