Riding the Wave to the Rocky Shore

This term we are learning all about the Rocky Shore.  

Last Friday was a special day because we went on the bus to the Island Bay Marine Education Centre.






We met Jules.  He works at the Marine Centre. We listened carefully to Jules because he knows so much about all the sea creatures that live on the rocky shore that he is an expert!  

 When we arrived Jules was holding a Little Blue Penguin.

We went to see the aquarium.  

We looked in all the different tanks.  

We saw an Octopus.

 The Octopus looks orange and red.

He looked at us.

 We could see the Octopus Suckers.

 An Octopus has 8 legs.

 Jules fed the Octopus. The Octopus was very clever. It did a trick for us and squeezed through a little hole in the glass.

We found a seahorse.

We found some really big fish!  

 Jules showed us some sea snot. YUCK!  It is like slime.  It comes from a snot snake, who makes the sea snot to protect itself from danger!

What else did we see?

These sea creatures are in tanks so that Jules can look after them, and learn more about the creatures that live in the sea and on the Rocky Shore. 

Next we looked in the 'touch gently' tanks.  We had to remember to use really soft fingers and hands.   

 We had an interesting time exploring and investigating the creatures that lived in the tanks.

 For lots of us this was our very first time seeing the sea creatures that live on and under the rocks.

After that we went outside to explore the rocky shore.  It was a wild windy Wellington day! We had to hold on tight to each other while we explored.  

'The rocks were cold' said Kingston.

'The rocks were sharp' said Jeven.

'The rocks are bumpy and wobbly' said Joshua.

'The rocks were wet and some rocks were dry'

said Anika.

 We can see a cushion starfish!

 What has Eva spotted?

some cats eyes!

 Neptunes Necklace was our favorite.

It had little beads that felt like rubber 

and we could squish them!

 We can see a little scallop shell.

 Look at all the cats eyes sticking to the rocks.

Our Term 3 Class Party

We have finished another busy term of learning in E6.  We decided as a class to have a special party lunch to celebrate how super we all are!

We all helped to set the tables for the party.   We put some pretty flowers into some jars and put them on the table.  We all brought a special plate of food to class to share with our friends.  We put the food out on the table nicely.





We love to spend time with each other in E6 doing special things together ... and we love parties!  

Our 3D Pukeko Pictures

This week we have been enjoying some stories and songs about Pukekos.   We found an app on the ipads and ipod touch at school that made our colouring in Pukeko pictures come to life in amazing 3D.  

We had to colour in our pukeko first.   Then we looked through the ipad and saw our pukeko come to life!  It was amazing to see our pukeko walking around and eating the worm in our picture.

We put our hand underneath the pukeko and 'picked him up'.  He walked across our hand when we looked through the screen.  When we saw our pukeko move around we said "WOW!"

We took photos of our 3D pukekos.  Have a look!

Meeting a Nurse

We have been so busy meeting so many superheroes that work in Lower Hutt this week!

Today we met a Nurse.   Nurse Debbie has been a nurse for 30 years.   She helps keep people healthy, and makes them feel better if they are sick or hurt.  She came to school to talk to E7 and E6 about her very important job.

Debbie is a real superhero who lives in our community.  We helped Debbie find the equipment that she needs to do her job.

We helped Debbie make a poster of all the special equipment that Nurses use to help people.

Debbie showed us all the important equipment she needs to help her look after people.

Miss Pauley found these images of the equipment Nurse Debbie showed us.

This is the Nurses Badge.  This shows us that Nurse Debbie has learned how to be a Nurse.  We know she is someone we can trust to help us.

This is a stethoscope.  Nurse Debbie uses it to listen to our heart and lungs.  She can hear how strong and healthy we are and work out if we need help.

Nurse Debbie showed us how she makes a sling for someone with a broken arm.  Megan was a super patient for Nurse Debbie!

Nurse Debbie really is a superhero! We are lucky to have Nurses in our community to look after us if we need help.
