Where is the Green Sheep?

Joshua brought one of his favourite books to school for E6 to read together.
We are such super star readers that we all read the words together.

We found out at the end of the story that the green sheep was fast asleep under the bush in the garden.
We thought of a new ending to the story.
We had to use our green hat thinking, and come up with some creative new ideas.
First we did a class brainstorm to get all our clever ideas out!

Next we drew a picture using pastels and dye to show where we thought the green sheep might be.
We used a black marker to go around the outlines to make our art pop out!

We then wrote some stories.
Mrs Graham printed out our fabulous creative story writing to display in our classroom with our pictures.

Come and see our creative work!

Gymnastics Fun

We have been going to Gymnastics in the hall.   We have been practising balancing, crawling, running and jumping.  We have learned to move our bodies in all sorts of ways!

We have been learning to stretch our arms out wide to help us balance when we walk along the beam.

We have been learning to bend our knees so that we can land safely after jumping.

We had to stretch our muscles and warm up our bodies before each session.

Come and watch us ....

Rainbows

Over the last few days we have been seeing lots of rainbows in the sky.  It has been raining a lot in Lower Hutt, but when it isn't raining the sun has been peeking through the clouds.

We have been learning about rainbows.  We learned two very important things.

We know that you need sun and rain to see a rainbow in the sky.  You have to have the rain in front of you, and the sun behind you.

We also learned that the colours in the rainbow are always the same, and always in the same order!

Sometimes when we draw rainbows we like to choose colours that we love the most.  But when you look up in the sky at a rainbow the colours are always in the same order.  Sometimes rainbows are really bright in the sky and sometimes you have to look really hard to see them.

We read a big book together by our favourite author, Joy Cowley.  The book was called Roy G Biv.  Roy G Biv is a rainbow clown and he lives in Rainbow Town.  He wears colourful rainbow clothes.  Roy G Biv helped us to learn the names of the colours that are in a rainbow.

Every letter in Roy G Biv's name stands for a colour in the rainbow.  The letters in his name are also the order that the colours of the rainbow are in!
We painted beautiful rainbows and we used Roy G Biv to help us remember what colour to paint next.  We are so proud of our beautiful rainbows.

We are going to ask Mr Mike to come to our classroom with the ladder so we can hang them up high.  We think they will make us smile while we are learning.  We hope they make you smile too!

Healthy Snacks

On Friday we did something special together to celebrate our learning about healthy eating.

We made healthy fruit and vegetable platters to share for Morning Tea.  We know you should eat fruit or vegetables every single day to help you grow strong and stay healthy.

After the fruit and vegetables had been washed we took turns to sit around the table and prepare the food.

Jeven and Jerry pulled all the grapes off their stems.

Megan grated the carrot and Taylor sliced up the banana with a knife.
We used plastic knives so we could practice chopping and slicing safely.

Natey and Charlotte sliced up the oranges.

Rohan peeled a manderin and pulled apart the segments.
Kingston chopped up the kiwifruit into bite size pieces!
Ashton chopped up the apple and pear.
The plastic knife was tricky so Colleen helped Ashton with the very sharp knife.

Some of us wanted chose to push some fruit onto kebab sticks that Taylors Mummy gave us.  We had to be careful because the pointy end of the stick was sharp so that the fruit would slide onto the stick. We love fruity Kebabs!

YUM YUM YUM!

We got to eat our morning tea inside on the mat.  We sat in a big circle and waited patiently for Kerry and Colleen to pass around the platters.

What a delicious healthy choice snack for Morning Tea!
We are super healthy and strong in E6.
Harold would be so proud of us!

Thank you so much to Raphy and Natey's Mum Kerry, and Joshua's Mum Colleen for helping us to make our morning tea together!

There are lots of different foods we could choose to eat when we are hungry.
I wonder what we else we could eat for morning tea that would be a healthy choice and give us energy?

Leave us a comment if you have an idea!

Harold the Giraffe Session Two

We went back to see Jo and Harold for our second visit.  We were very excited because Harold the Giraffe was going to his friend Jocko the Monkey's birthday party.

We helped Harold choose some healthy
food for Jocko to eat.

We had to help Jocko eat a balanced diet.
That means we eat a variety of food everyday.

We used the food pyramid to help us work out what foods we should eat lots of, what food we should eat sometimes and what food we should eat only as a treat.

We looked in Harold's shopping bag to see what he had bought.

We put all his shopping on the food pyramid to see if he was eating a balanced diet.
We learned that we should eat lots of fruit and vegetables and bread or rice or pasta every single day.  This food makes us healthy and gives us energy to run and jump and learn and play.

We learned that we should drink milk, and eat meat or fish or beans some of the time too.
This food makes our bones and teeth strong, and helps our muscles to grow.
We know that sugary foods and drinks are only treats and not an everyday food.  We should save treats for special occasions.

We can see a rainbow.

Today E6 were walking back from Jump Jam when we looked up and saw a beautiful rainbow.  We were so lucky because we saw two rainbows.  One of the rainbows was very bright and it looked beautiful in the sky.  We didn't want to stop looking at it!
Miss Harrison from E4 came out with her class to see the rainbow too.   She took a photo and emailed it to Mrs Graham so we could share it on our blog.

What did we say to each other when we saw the rainbow?

I wonder what makes a rainbow?
I wonder why there were 2 rainbows today?
I wonder if we could make a rainbow?
I wonder if you can name the colours that you see in the rainbow?

We talked lots about rainbows today.
We are busy wondering and thinking about rainbows ...

E6 Superheroes!

We got a very special surprise in E6 this morning.  Rohan's Mum gave our class 4 superhero capes.  We were so excited and we really love them.  Two capes are sparkly gold and two capes are sparkly silver. They shine and flap around when we run and spin.

Thank you Penny for giving us some awesome superhero capes.
We had great fun taking turns to wear them!

Harold the Giraffe

Today was a special day in E6 because we went to see Jo and Harold the Giraffe. We got to go inside the special classroom.

It was a truck classroom.  It was dark and had no windows.  Some of us got a fright when it got really dark but Jo showed us how she made the lights glow.   We loved looking up at the star lights on the ceiling.  We pretended to throw star dust up into the air and Jo made them twinkle for us.

We thought it looked so beautiful.

We met Harold.  He was shy so we gave him a friendly wave.  Harold waved at us with his ears and we thought that was really cool.

Jo told us how important it is to eat a balanced diet.  That means that you eat lots of different foods so that your body has energy to grow and stay strong.  We made a food pyramid puzzle on the classroom wall with Jo.  We liked sticking the pieces on by ourselves.

We met Jo's friend Tam.  She is just pretend and made of plastic.  We got to see where the food goes when Tam eats it.  Tam's body helped us to learn about our own body.

Raphy was the brain doctor.  He showed us how the healthy blood travels up to the brain.

We learned that the food goes into our tummies and then into our blood.  Our blood pumps all around our body from our brain right down to our toes!

Joshua was the heart doctor.  He pointed to the heart and showed us how the heart pumps the blood all around our body inside special tubes called veins and arteries.'

We can't wait to see Harold and Jo again tomorrow.  We are going to make our own healthy food pyramid on our classroom wall.
