We are top cats!

We have had a busy and fun learning adventure together in E6 this year.   We really are top cats!  Raphy and Natey's Mum came to paint our faces like top cats yesterday as a special treat for being such busy bees and brilliant learners!
Thank you so much Kerry for painting our faces ... don't we look just like clever cats!

Our End of Year Trip to the Beach

Yesterday we were so excited because we went on the bus to Days Bay with all the Junior classes to celebrate the end of school for 2013.  We got to build sandcastles on the beach and collect some shells.  We paddled in the water and jumped some waves.

B J Bear came to see us.  We sang The Wheels on the Bus with him.  Charlotte and Joshua tried to give B J a high 5 but he tricked us and moved his hand away too quickly!
After lunch we got our face painted and went on a scavenger hunt.  We found some treasures along the beach and sat quietly listening to all the sounds we could hear.  We had a turn on the bouncy castles and played some sports games.
Before we went home Harriet the Clown came and put on a show for us all.  While we watched the show we all had lemonade ice blocks!

What a fabulous trip Mrs Gwilliam organised for all of us.  We went back to school tired but happy!  What a great way to spend one of our last days together!

Our E6 Term 4 Superstar

Each Term at Eastern Hutt School Mrs Henderson (our school principal) gives out a very special award to one person from every class at our school.  This award is for somebody that shows excellence in all that they do.  That means that we give our very very best, always.

Our excellent learner in E6 for Term 4 is Eva!

Eva gives her very very best.
Eva tries super hard, and when it gets tricky she just takes a big breath and tells herself she can do it!
You should see her beautiful artwork.  She takes her time and great care to to finish some amazing masterpieces.
Eva is an expert at helping people.  If you ask her to help she says "sure I'll do that" with a big smile on her face.
Eva knows how to work quietly and follow instructions.  She is good at thinking about new ideas too!

Way to go Eva - we are so proud of you and we think you deserve Mrs Henderson's special excellence award!

Our School Show

We are so excited because we are putting on a junior school show for all our friends and families to come and see.  Our school show is called 'Commotion in the Ocean'.  All the junior classes have chosen a sea creature as their class item.  We get to do a jellyfish dance with E7 on the stage in our school hall.

Today we had our first full dress rehearsal.  The middle and senior school children came to watch us.

Look at us in our jiggly jolly jellyfish costumes.  We had so much fun!

E6 Swimming Stars

Today we were so excited because we had our first swimming session in our school pool.  We are so lucky to have a school pool that is heated.    Some of us were a bit nervous because we haven't been in the school pool before.  But we had a try and we discovered it was great fun.

We got to have a big play while Mrs Graham and Miss Pauley watched all our clever swimming tricks and swimming skills.
We can't wait till Friday afternoon when we can say
Let's go Swimming again!

Our First School Disco

We had fun with the rest of the juniors at the school disco tonight.  We rocked the dance floor! And we really loved spending our pocket money on some glow in the dark necklaces!

Jiggly Jolly Jellyfish

Room E6 are enjoying a poem about Jellyfish.  We are practicing reading our poem with smooth voices, like we are talking.  We are doing our best to read with expression as well!

You can listen to us read our poem by clicking on the link
below, can you hear our interesting voices?

Grasshopper Tennis

Today we went to the hall to play Grasshopper Tennis.  Joel was the teacher and he taught us to play the smelly bus game.  It was tricky because we had to hit the ball over the net with our tennis racquet but we just gave our very best and had a try.    We laughed a lot because the tennis balls kept going all over the hall!

We learned to balance the tennis ball on our racquet, and to bounce and hit it.  We can't wait till we get to go to our second tennis lesson next week!

Numbers!

We like to practise writing numbers to 20 on the mini whiteboards.   Sometimes it is tricky to remember which way the numbers go but we just keeping giving it our very best.

Look how clever we are getting at writing numbers to 20 correctly.  Don't we look proud?

Happy Diwali 2013!

This week at school we celebrated Diwali.  Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights.  It is a special festival that celebrates the start of the Hindu New Year.  People in India and all across the world celebrate Diwali.

At school today we went to the hall to see a special show.  The Chhau Dance Drama group come from India.  They put on a show for us.
The dancers are all men.
They wear special masks to help them tell stories as they dance.

We were a bit scared of some of the masks at first!

The costumes were so colourful and we thought the dancers were very clever.

We went back to our classroom after the show and our Year 4 Buddies came to see us.  We celebrated Diwali by making some little Diya lamps together.

Diya lamps are usually made out of clay.  During Diwali and other special Hindu festivals people light them and place them in temples and all over their houses.

We made our Diya lamps out of play dough and we put a little tea light candle inside.

On Friday some of us dressed up in our national costumes that help us celebrate who we are.  Come and look at our fabulous outfits!

Sriraj's Mum made us some special Indian sweets called 'Jamoon' to try.  They had almond powder and cashew nuts sprinkled on the nuts. Thank you Lalitha and Sriraj for sharing your special dish with us in E6!

Mrs Graham wore a special sari for Diwali!
