Keep On Reaching High!

This week we have been talking together about who we are.
We agreed that in E6 we are a group of learners that want to help each other to learn new things, never give up and always give our very best.   Learning is what we have in common!  Learning can be hard work but together we can make it easier and have fun along the way.
We have found a great song with an important message!  Mrs Graham thinks it is fantastic for our class!  Listen carefully to the words and enjoy the tune!

Magical Maths

We have been doing lots of counting this week.  We are learning to count correctly.  When we count we use our magical pointing finger that we use when we read.  Sometimes we need to count again to check that we are right!

We played a game on our class projector.  We had to count the red buttons on the Gingerbread Mans coat to find out how many he had.  Then we matched it to the correct number on our number fan.

We have put this game on our blog.
You can find it by clicking on the numeracy tab above, or click below to go straight to the game.

Statistics - Collecting and Sorting Information

We have started learning about Statistics.  We know that statistics is collecting, sorting and sharing information about something. Come and see what we have discovered.

We decided to investigate what colour lunch boxes the children in E6 had.    We were amazed to find out that there are only white and pink lunch boxes in E6!

We decided to sort all the lunch boxes into groups.  We made one group of white lunch boxes, and one group of pink lunch boxes.  It was tricky to count them all when they were in a messy pile so we decided to put them in lines beside each other.

We found out that 7 children in E6 have white lunch boxes, and 3 children have pink lunch boxes.  We found out that in E6 the most popular lunch box colour is white!

Next we tipped all our counting teddies on the floor.  We worked together to sort the teddies by colour.

There are 4 groups.  Our classroom counting teddies are red, yellow, blue and green.

Tomorrow we are going to sort the teddies by size.  We have decided we will need three groups because there are big, medium and small teddies in our teddies bucket.

I wonder which group will have the most teddies in it?

We are having fun sorting things in our classroom in lots of different ways!

In the Garden

Today we read a book called 'In the Garden'.  We drew some pictures of what we see when we look in the garden.

Mrs Graham shared a song with us about the garden.  We have put it on our blog so that we can sing it at home too.

Anika said "I love looking at lemons growing in the garden".
Sriraj said "I like looking at strawberries in the garden".
Taylor said "I like looking at rainbows up in the sky when it is raining in my garden".
Megan said "When I play on the trampoline in my garden I can see the flowers".
Eva said "I like smelling pink and white flowers in the garden".
Jeven said "Watermelon grows in the garden".
Lucia said "I like picking apples in the garden".

We are wondering what you like looking at when you go out into the garden?

Swimming

Today we went swimming in our school pool with E7.

It was nice and sunny, but the water was a bit cold.  We didn't stay in for long but we had lots of fun getting used to our school pool!  Can you see the colourful sea creatures painted on the bottom?

Lucia held on to the pole and showed us her kicking.

Kingston blew the ball along the top of the water.

Megan showed us her super duper gliding and floating!

Jeven and Anika showed us how they hold the flutterboard with rocket arms!

Charlotte practised putting her face down into the water.  She blew lots of little bubbles!

We are very lucky to have a school pool to swim in twice a week during Term One.  Just watch us become water safe and water confident! What a fabulous way to end the week on Friday afternoons!

Visting our School Library

Today we went to the school library.  We met the librarian.  Her name is Mrs Stubbings.  Our library got a makeover during the summer holidays.  Mrs Stubbings showed us around the new library.   She showed us the books that are good for us to browse and look at.

We can read our books on the new bean bags!
They are so comfortable!

We also found some colourful curvy seats to sit on.

Mrs Stubbings told us 5 children can sit in the middle at a time. We love the cosy wee spaces for reading!

We get to visit the school library every Thursday.  We choose one book each to take home for the week and one book each for our class bookshelf.

We are wondering what your school library looks like. Do you have cosy cushions or
secret spaces for reading?

This week we have been learning to write some letters and words.  We have worked hard to write our name correctly.  Come and see our superstar writing.  We are feeling very proud!
