Statistics - Collecting and Sorting Information

We have started learning about Statistics.  We know that statistics is collecting, sorting and sharing information about something. Come and see what we have discovered.

We decided to investigate what colour lunch boxes the children in E6 had.    We were amazed to find out that there are only white and pink lunch boxes in E6!

We decided to sort all the lunch boxes into groups.  We made one group of white lunch boxes, and one group of pink lunch boxes.  It was tricky to count them all when they were in a messy pile so we decided to put them in lines beside each other.

We found out that 7 children in E6 have white lunch boxes, and 3 children have pink lunch boxes.  We found out that in E6 the most popular lunch box colour is white!

Next we tipped all our counting teddies on the floor.  We worked together to sort the teddies by colour.

There are 4 groups.  Our classroom counting teddies are red, yellow, blue and green.

Tomorrow we are going to sort the teddies by size.  We have decided we will need three groups because there are big, medium and small teddies in our teddies bucket.

I wonder which group will have the most teddies in it?

We are having fun sorting things in our classroom in lots of different ways!
